Over the last five years, numerous incidents of police cars being set on fire have been reported across the United States, often in the context of protests or as acts of arson. Here are some notable examples:

During Protests: Police vehicles have been targeted during various protests, including those related to the George Floyd protests in 2020.

Atlanta, Georgia (May 2020): Multiple police cars were set ablaze during protests following the death of George Floyd.

Los Angeles, California (May 2020 & June 2025): A police car was burned during a protest against police violence in May 2020. More recently, in June 2025, during anti-immigration protests, police vehicles were vandalized and at least one California Highway Patrol car was set on fire.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (July 2020): Four police cars were set on fire overnight.

Austin, Texas (May 2020): During a George Floyd protest, a car, a mattress, and a dumpster were set on fire in front of the Austin Police Department's headquarters.

San Francisco, California (June 2025): An SFPD cruiser was damaged and a Waymo self-driving car was set on fire during an anti-ICE protest.

Acts of Arson: Police vehicles have also been the targets of deliberate arson outside of protest settings.

Portland, Oregon (May 2024): An arsonist set fire to at least 15 police training vehicles at a training facility.

New York City, New York (June 2025): At least eight NYPD vehicles, including police cruisers and vans, were set on fire in a secured parking lot in Brooklyn. A man was later arrested and charged with arson in connection with this incident.

Hollywood, Florida (August 2025): An unoccupied Hollywood police car was damaged in a fire that was ruled an act of arson.
