If you have the time, the stretch between Duluth and Mackinaw underneath Superior is mundane compared to taking the north shore. That Route between Duluth and SSMarie is spectacular....then south from there across "The Bridge" down 75 to Flint, left on 69 to Sarnia ...

And looking forward to it Marty. As an architect you will appreciate where I live

Example of Brutalist Architecture, more common in insitutions and not common at all for residences. Another example is Moshe Safdie's Habitat in Montreal which you can visit too.

And I agree. We are so integrated along our border....especially from Duluth out along the Great lakes, various rivers then the St Lawrence..out to Montreal and QC, ...amazingly centuries old then French- European layout and architecture in residences and churches and institutions. Left that way as the English went to build Montreal into its major city of governance over Lower and Upper Canada

For more than 250 years that ribbon has been building even before the USA and Canada became sovereign nations. The integration is "dense along the border and goes quite far south, kinda fading like as things developed "organically", driven by commerce. Commerce crosses the border every day and in some cases, what ends up in a consumer's hands has crossed the border a number of times.

But in that area, Canada has the rivers and huge hydro powered generators that transmit power into the NE grid...not having access to that, or having that suddenly cost much more.....well that would errr be lights out for the economy.

I don't think for a minute that will be allowed to happen but I expect that in any Trump attempt to disrupt our economy, these types of resources are on the table.

Canada is not defenceless if Trump wants to mess with us.

I have to think his smart ( not the "personally loyal sycophants who would do whatever was requested of them in the "power position" they hold that enables them to simply command resources to get that whatever Trump wants done) advisors will talk sense into him and advise him with due care

But then I did not think he would win either...so here we are

In the end it is all about how these things meet up with us personally, then it becomes whether or not we have the means to react so we return to some kind of equillibrium in our lives.

So whatever he does...I expect I can deal with the consequences. I'm lucky enough to be able to legally reside in the EU if things get totally out of hand....

So barring you having to visit me there, I'll see you here within 24 months. smile
