Unstable/broken home.
Economic instability.
Low education attainment and expectations.
Family members in a gang.
Neglect by one or both parents.
Violence in the home or in the community, directed at the child.

Read up on the history of gangs in El Salvador.
They were combatants in a civil war.
That was their skill set.
After the war they migrated to the Los Angeles, CA in numbers.
