Don't care much about the shroud lol...
Carbon dating has been propagated as legitimate science since the 40s, despite the glaring and obvious flaws in its conception, and tendency to be skewed by environmental factors. I only have a basic understanding of it myself, but there's plenty of scientists arguing the pros/cons. Just look at how many Google results you get...
The short story is, you can carbon date two different objects that you know the ages of. Then, place the results on a timeline and connect the dots, simple. Problem is, because of environmental factors, and various methods of calculation, even similar objects from the same time don't date consistently. However, the real problem is, so called "scientists" will connect the dots anyway... and arbitrarily draw a straight line all the way back to 50 billion years ago!
Carbon dating has been proven, by the scientists own results, to be an unreliable working theory.
Now, please don't ask me if I believe the universe is only 6000yrs old Marty... I'm not that stupid, and no, the Bible doesn't say that...
