David,

Interesting post. I am all for open source as long as participation is voluntary on the behalf of the creator, not imposed on them by yet a different entity just trying to make money.

I find it ironic that "File Sharing" thieves think they are sticking it to the money grubbers when all they are doing is paying someone else (who didn't even create the music) to help them steal (i.e. the various file sharing companies/sites/software developers) who all have their own money making scheme connected to this free file sharing stuff. Whether it's ads on file sharing sites, sales of software used to steal, payola given by those who use the services as a back door promotions method or any of the other many ways (like data harvesting, which is a gigantic money maker for them) all these "free" music file sharers are simply making money for their partners in crimes, often much more than the artists who created the work would have made if they had actually paid for the music. That's a lost concept on most. Even those who control the net portals (i.e. internet bandwidth providers) and profiting from the illegal file sharing through their usage fees. Everyone is making a buck off the artists except for the artists/creators. At least in the traditional system, SOME of the money makes its way back to the creators (or at least the creators had the ability to decide how it would be distributed).
