You give 100 songwriters the same topic to write on and you'll get 100 different songs. If one of those songs proves to be a smash hit,you will find hundreds if not thousands of singers that can do a good job of singing it,all a little differently.I believe that writer deserved his/her royalties if others use that song to make money for themselves.

Anyone performing these songs live does not pay themselves for using the song,I don't believe the club owner pays a per song levy either,he pays a fee for the year based on many things according to his establishment. All these fees go into a pool and the amount of plays reported over a period of time is devided into this pool of money, this determines what each song is worth. The less plays reported will mean those that do get reported will get more than they should because they will be getting the share belonging to those that don't get reported. Much the same as radio royalties, those that don't get picked up in the PROs sampling will get nothing which will inflate the share of those that do get picked up.It is unfair but that is the system as I understand it.I don't know who's responsibility it is to get that list of songs sent to the PROs but if it dosen't get sent, the songwriters that wrote the songs that you love to sing, will not get paid, you will, the club owner will but the songwriters will not. That is unfair. You will get paid in dollars, the songwriters will get paid in pennies if he/she gets paid at all.

The more you taste the bitterness of defeat, the sweeter final victory will be

May the flowers of love forever bloom in your garden of life
