Ed...I use History as my model..

Somebody came up with this idea after thousands of years of songs being performed life with no compensation...

It's a bad idea.

I stick to my premise...
I'm helping the artist sell his product...where's my cut ?

I'll go back to my "tool" ananlogy..

As a plumber or electrician, I cannot do my job without the use of channel locks.
Do I owe the inventor a percentage of every job where I use them, and if not, why not ?
I'm a performer and a songsriter,
I'm looking at this from both sides...

The songwriter side is being greedy and wrong !

If not for the work of the performing musician the songwriter doesn't get heard and nobody buys his song !

If the venue owner gets buried in overhead he can't afford to have music and nobody hears the songwriters song.

If nobody hears the songwriters song nobody buys the songwriters CD or tee shirts or whatever.

If anybody is gonna pay anybody it should be the songwriter paying everybody to get their song out in public !

When artists did that (payola_ to get their songs on the radio, I didn't read about any songwriters turning down their cut !

Fair is fair...
A songwriter writes the song, sure..he or she pushes that pen or pecks those keys...then it's the performer that goes out on the road and works his or her ass off getting people to listen so the songwriter can make money off of sales.

THATY"S the hard work, believe me...I've done both !

No...sorry...I'm still waiting for anything that approaches a logical argument to appear !

Happy Holidays to you and yours as well, Ed !
Let's think about some really important stuff like getting our kids in the Military home safe !
