Regarding the last couple of posts by PD and Bob.. Wasn't this entire thread based upon the playing of cover songs?...ie..not your own songs?
Isn't that the actual stated reason the PROs are collecting money from the venues?
I would think the only thing requiring reporting would be the cover songs...most of which have have an identity number currently established, if it were only made available to the cover artist for the sake of reporting purposes.

In regards to the television in the bar, it seems pathetic to me. Oh, yes... only if the volume is turned up? Nuttier than a damned fruitcake I say. This is due to the the songs they hear in the background? Commercial jingles? Who is to say there is any music at all? And who cares? I'm mean it..who truly cares about the televisions in bars? The songwriters? I think not. Songwriters/performers want the televisions OFF! (unless they are on it)(at that time they should be glowingly NOT concerned about bar televisions, but merely happy as hell to be on the television) Cannot people celebrate the fact they are on the television, regardless of where that television is located?
Should my dear mother be levied a fee for playing a radio in her antique shop in an effort to create "an atmosphere of pleasure" while playing solitaire? What about her watching Oprah on the tv? Are they coming after my mother next?
What about those grossly illegal and guilty moments where we've spun big chunks of vinyl so's to show off an old Victrola with a Bing Crosby or Satchmo record, all the while creating the perfect atmosphere of days gone by?..AND possibly aiding the sale of the Victrola. Wow...these PROs are missing a golden opportunity for extorsion here. And should the day come that somebody tries to collect, they'll leave the establishment with no skin on their hides, and a few more bones in the cellar's soil wouldn't hurt a thing, either....helps the weed grow!..LOL

Anyway... as you were, gents! ...Have a good one & keep up the good work!
