Hmmm, I must be reading a different article here, 'cause it looked to me like this ASCAP entity hires professional testimony givers, who may or may not be telling the truth about whether certain songs were sung on a certain date--no sign of proof, other than their word...Give me a break!!!
This story sickened me...this is definitely a case of coercion, in my view. And, the fact that it's only $1.91 a day, or whatever, is irrelevant...(who decided that, and what prevents them from raising that fee arbitrarily? Who watches the watchers?) What is relevant is that music is not being played at all in a place that used to have it...instead, the patrons of that small bar are reduced to watching TV, and gazing at the Budweiser clock spinning around, while lawyers get rich at yet another scheme to invent a tax where even the government wouldn't tread.
