FWIW, the same debate crops up every year here in Belgium, with one or the other venue crying foul about the big (everything's relative, remember) bad Sabam (our PRO) getting heavy on small venues that have such a hard time and are doing so much to promote music and culture in their neighbourhood. Last year, one of them managed to get a half-page in the leading daily here, proof that you have to be careful how these things are handled. The venue in question was indeed putting on rock bands in a musical desert but, as one of the bands pointed out, it wasn't paying the bands either! So the claim that it was helping music was a bit spurious. But it did pull at least one sucker in: the journalist. ------------------ Michael Leahy The Accidental Lyricist http://michael-leahy.indiegroup.com

"Defeatist Pessimists and Rose Colored Glasses Optimists are lonely companions, victims even. Both ideologies imply predestined outcomes, and therefore breed inactivity in its victims. Inaction is the only sure way to lose at anything in life. All positive action guarantees at least a fighting chance." -Brian Austin Whitney
