Cobber...
As you know, 99% of my 40 years in the biz has been spent playing "cover" tunes. From bars to coffee housed to school dances to weddings to corporate gigs..
I could never begin to count the number of times people have come up to inquire about who recorded a song we had played.
I can cite the Grateful Dead as a good example. My band was playing Dead songs long before it was fashionable in places that had never heard of the Grateful Dead. I did it because I realized early on that the charm of the songs lay in their danceability. They're just great songs to dance to.. Since most of the jobs I was doing involved getting people up to dance..well....
So lots of folks were hearing those songs for the first time.. Many of them were the kind of people who would say " I hate the Grateful Dead" without even thinking about it because of their pre-conceived notions about Dead music.
I'll stake my ass on the fact that some of those folks went out and bought Dead records just cos' they had so much fun dancing to them when I played them.
And, soundclick finally uploaded one of mine yesterday after 2 unsuccessful tries !
I wonder what's going on over there.
Bob

"Defeatist Pessimists and Rose Colored Glasses Optimists are lonely companions, victims even. Both ideologies imply predestined outcomes, and therefore breed inactivity in its victims. Inaction is the only sure way to lose at anything in life. All positive action guarantees at least a fighting chance." -Brian Austin Whitney
