Bob,

Again.. NEVER have I said there needs to be a list. What I have ALWAYS said is that there needs to a PRO license fee paid so that writers are compensated. Period. How you can keep reading post after post where I've never said or suggested keeping a written list was needed or realistic is bizarre!

How many times do I need to say it POINT BLANK: Lists don't work. No one could keep them accurate. No one could enforce them. No one wants to do it. No one WILL do it for the average little show in a coffee shop. Can anyone imagine how ridiculous it would be for the PRO's to receive lists written on napkins, without proper contact/date info, without being readable, without any idea who the writers and artists actually are, without knowing if your PRO (ASCAP, BMI, SESAC) even has rights to that particular version of the song "I Love You" and so on?

Anyone thinking that in a million years a hand written list will EVER be effective or possible to track live performances needs a major reality check. Is that STILL confusing to you Bob? The blanket fee IS the way to go until there is some type of technological advance that takes human error, laziness and dishonesty out of the equation. That is likely coming for Radio, TV, other media and the Internet, but I don't see it on the horizon yet for small venues and terribly unmotivated artists and venue owners.
