Kanye was half-rapping, half-singing. They had the live version of autotune working very obviously as an effect - or he was singing/rapping along with a track that had autotune set to make the Cher "Believe" effect all through the song.
I fast-forwarded most of his song so I wouldn't have to endure it. I've heard some good rap, that wasn't so good. I don't hate rap music. I've even produced a couple of rap tunes in my studio, but I just don't get this guy.
