His voice was off key for most of it. And the rap song itself was terrible. It's okay if you don't like Rap music. Once you decide it's all not for you, then there's no reason to think twice about it. I like GOOD rap music. I have heard plenty of it. What Kanye does isn't good rap music.. it's not even mediocre rap music. It's terrible rap music. It's not the subject matter. Most of the time he's singing/rapping about the same stuff you'd hear in any pop, rock or country song. He's not a "gangsta" rap artist. But he sucks. And he sucks BADLY.
He's a cult of personality to many. They love him for no particular reason beyond they are supposed to. There's no more artistic merit to what he does than what any bad country singer does. Bad is bad. But he's the king of the world in his community and no one will tell the truth about his voice of talent.
I am friends with a major insider in that community and he wasn't able to explain it to me acceptably either. It's the most puzzling thing I've come across in the commercial music world in any genre.
