Taxi has absolutely no motivation to move a song forward if they derive no benefit from it when it sells.Any publisher or record company that never sold a song would make zero profit, and be out of business in no time.Taxi could stay in business for a very long time without ever selling a song off,and there would likely never be a shortage of talentless suckers willing to pay a couple hundred bucks for a shot at getting a track signed.

I know that's not exactly the way it works,Taxi has been a vehicle for one major track and numerous smaller ones.Indeed if they never sold off anything word would get out and eventually most people would stop submiting, ten million dollars of legitimate profit down the road. But that is not the point.

The point is that if you are a writer or performer and you want any decent chance of getting signed you will need somebody with connections who has a financial stake in your success to go to bat for you. That means they will get a cut of the profit.Taxi has no financial stake in the sucess of artists, only in proccessing as many songs as possible and maximizing their profit. They reject you and they get paid,if you get signed they get paid the same. This doesn't mean they don't submit the handful of tracks they recieve that are really great and obviously suited for their customer, but I expect they are REALLY PICKY,and regularly turn down much material that is marginal but sellable because there is simply no profit in it for them. There is lot's of music that is sold into a commercial market that is likely not better than much of what Taxi rejects,it just gets sold off as a function of trading off favors among insiders.

If you want to make it in the music business the best way is to do it is the old fashioned way, showcase in local clubs, make the move to a major media center if neccesary and get gigs in the big industry showcases. If you aren't good enough to get gigs in places like that you are wasting your money on Taxi, you will have little trouble running into real A&R people and real publishers in those kinds of places.
