My two cents (or $300) worth. I joined TAXI about a month and a half ago. I guess I should have done my homework a bit better. They trumpet the virtue of getting critiques from industry professionals as part of their service. What I didn't do was carefully peruse the online listings. If I had I would have noticed a rather large number of listings with the imprimatur "NO CRITIQUES YES/NO ONLY". These listings still cost you the usual $5, but you don't get the critique. After spending my $300 and realizing this little item I sent TAXI an email complaining that it seemed a bit like bait/switch since they don't have any testimonials posted where some guy is thanking them the for helpful YES/NO responses. I got a polite brush-off email in return informing me that the NO CRITIQUES policy is for industry clients who are in a real hurry and, anyway, the $5 is not for the critique it's to make ME think before sending them anything other than my best stuff. Well, they've certainly accomplished their mission in making me think. Here's what I think:
Beginning with the tone of their membership booklet which makes it sound as if you'd better package your submission just right OR ELSE and continuing through their terse reply to my complaint it's obvious that TAXI thinks I'm damned lucky they're having anything to do with me. Strangely, as the source of the aforementioned $300, I feel differently. In fact, I almost feel like I'm sort of a customer, or should be.
If I see a listing that really looks good this year, I'll probably sumit something. Next year I'll spend my renewal money on a nice dinner for my family.
