Here's an update to my earlier post. I've recieved and very lengthy email from Mike Laskow, CEO of TAXI in response to my post here. It's not surprising when one sends an email with a complaint directly to TAXI that one receives, as mentioned above, a polite brush-off and when one posts in an open forum gets significantly more visibility. It's regrettable, but not surprising. Mr Laskow makes the point repeatedly that if I had read all the listings carefully before joining I would have known that only SOME listings involve critiques. I readily admit the point, in fact I made that point above. Nevertheless, the simple indisputable facts are that I, a customer with above average reading/comprehension skills, after checking out the TAXI site, came away with the distinct impression that ALL my sumissions would receive critiques. Why did I get that impression? What would it have taken for TAXI to give me an alternative, and more realistic, impression? Simply including a disclaimer somewhere on the main page perhaps? Not requiring me to drill down into the listings to get the real scoop perhaps? Let me be clear here, I am in no way accusing TAXI of fraud or anything approaching illegality. Mr Laskow has offered to refund my $300 dollars and I have taken him up on it. I am sure he'll follow through. But, as a consumer, I am sick and tired of having to drill down and read the fine print to figure out what I'm really buying! Just once I'd like to get what I THINK I'm getting and not have to play detective to cover my butt.
Lastly, explaining to me repeatedly that it's my own fault for not digging enough makes me feel like more of a rube than I already felt. How is that a good thing for TAXI? Ok, I admit it. I just went on all the testimonials and marketing copy. You know, the stuff designed to give a potential customer a certain general impression. Stupid me.
