Hey rblight,
There's nothing wrong with writing about booze, if the song is about booze. It's when it's thrown in as one line in a song about coming back to the "girl I left behind" that it becomes a distraction. Actually, modern country mentions drinking all the time: I Love This Bar, It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere, Alcohol, The More I Drink, Two Pina Coladas, Whiskey for My Men Beer for My Horses, Got a Little Crazy Last Night, Guitars and Tiki Bars, Whiskey Lullabye, Some Beach, just to name a few from the last few years. It's just not used gratuitously. And, yes, the most booze I ever saw at a party was in Mountain View, Arkansas, a dry county.
Anyway, the song is getting better. The lyrics are very "bluegrass" to me. Maybe some of the Kentucky moonshine stayed in your head.
Mike LOL.Maybe so. Anyway, your suggestion regarding the first verse ius definitely much better There were tears in my sweet Rose's eyes When she said she'd always wait there for me
