Hey there,
Well I'll put my 2 cents in about country writng....my first IMO would be write one song for you then one for country, don't stop writing what you like or how you like. That will make it easier to lose your real voice in writing...the way you put lyrics down on a piece of paper...your personal nuances.
2nd yes country artists look for outside material but it has to be original and also something the artist would say...LOL...(they get ya on that one)..eg..Taylor Swift would not be singing about how she stays out all night in the bars...its not her image at the moment. So even though you might write a killer song about it and have a connection with her she won't be singing it.
3rd. I think the final thing I will say is just keep writing...You will see your writing change over time to accomodate the country viewpoint....and you will be able to combine the details that country music requires with the emotional pull it also requires... and as with anything It takes time!
Good luck and keep writing.
