Being a type 2 diabetic, I am reading with great interest the above posts...I was diagnosed on Sept 18, 2020 by my neurologist....he had me go, immediately, to the local hospital where I was told I was lucky to be alive..my health had deteriorated to the point where I had to pause walking up 1 flight of stairs to catch my breath..I met a doctor and an expert in diabetes..who gave me tons of info on the disease...I took it home and went on the internet and googled and googled....a couple of hours later I threw out every bit of food I had in my apartment...the next day I went to the supermarket and bought the food I should be eating...for the last 3 1/2 years I have not changed, not even once, what I eat from that first day....

there are, I believe 2 different reading results... mine is mmol/L with a range of 4 to 7 being where the test results should land....in 2020 it was 26.7 and my A1C was 17.....meant nothing to me at the time...one month later it was below 7.0

By sticking to my new food regimen, I lost 50 lbs and have not moved from that # by a couple of pounds for 3 years...my blood sugar level has averaged 5.5 for 3 years with no number going above 6.0 after hundreds of tests...I started testing 3 times a day and now test 3 times a month, with the same results...the 50 lb loss I attribute to cutting my food consumption in half and the type of food I eat...my food bill was cut in half as well

Diabetes is a major health problem...10% of Canadians have it..and getting worse

Diabetes can be controlled but not cured at present

Type 2 is more than likely about what and how much you eat

To fight diabetes is a lifestyle change not a “go on a diet”

Carbs are the killer

Because I have not had a number above 7 for 3 years does not mean it has been reversed, I still have diabetes and it will progress but very slowly as long as I keep dong what I’m doing

My main concern is not diabetes...it’s the impact it has on the rest of my body...I now have peripheral neuropathy which is a destruction of the nerve endings in my feet caused by...diabetes...they cut off your limbs if it gets too bad....my doctor said as long as my blood sugar levels stay where they are I should be OK...now that’s an incentive to keep doing the same thing every day

I comment here only because I encourage people to make that life change....it is a killing disease that can attack you everywhere in your body....

at age 76 I have a simple thought each day "what do I need to do today to give a a chance to wake up tomorrow morning" I'm not sure that's where my thinking was 40, 50 years ago

Creators of music have a responsibility to their craft. When they have finished using all the notes and words, they must pass them down to the next generation with a simple request. “Use these to create new music.”...Steven McDonald
