Kay-lynn, nice little song......I'm not asking but it makes me wonder why he left, and what was so bad he never stayed in touch.

Frankly, I don't know why he left either. I was just a kid. My Mother never explained anything to me. When I was little, I remember he was an artist (painter) and he used to let us sell his paintings door to door at the trailor park and keep the money. I know he was haunted by his war time service (korea I think). He wrote pages and pages of how horrible it was (found in his apt)...There was no internet, you couldn't just look someone up. His apt was above a VFW bar and all his buddies said he told them he didn't have any children ...........................boy were they surprised when 3 adult daughters showed up.!

Lovely song. Lovely sentiment.
My suggestion:
Justify the singer's position more clearly in V1.
As the lyrics stand, she seems to be viewing the entire scene from the vantage of her feelings.
Justify her/his feelings more.
Storyline...
It had been too long since we last spoke, then I found out you were gone.
Some things had been wrong and we should have worked them out before you passed on.
When I went to get some things in order at your home, I found no trace of me.....Why?
