If there were a new iteration of JPF….what would be on your wish list?

Mine are (things I’ve seen on other sites)

1. an in-house audio player

2. The ability for any member to lock a thread.

Locking a thread by the originator doesn’t have to be a negative thing….more like a breather, a let me think about this awhile…etc

Not a bad idea Bill, but not likely.
That would be an impediment to "freedom of speech."

Don't care much for in house players... I like being able to keep track of play stats in one place and post in multiple places.

I mentioned elsewhere that, for the OP, being able to block certain disruptive people from posting to a thread on an as needed basis would be convenient...

Rants and such should be at the very bottom of the site.

Should not have to sign in to view threads or links.

Posting photos is always fun.

Language censor option per account.

Temporary file share capability for collabs.

Perhaps an Eq and Effects listening/render room could be fun/useful?

Oh Hell Yeah!

Let the number #1 dysfunctional troll who was recently blocked from another songwriting site lay down the rules here.

That is an excellent idea. Right up there with going to the zoo and jumping in the tiger cage with a T-bone tied around your neck.

LOL, best laugh I've had this week.

Forums are like a bunch of carpenters hanging out and showing each other their house they built . What this site needs is a post or listing on building a successful YouTube channel to make money off the houses being built , a metaphor for songs . Since AI is here to stay, the channel could be built for Suno songs to be promoted .The money is in Adsense.

I like the in house player, because it is a quick and easy way to capture an idea right now and supports a workshop song build.

I am the thread originator, so I believe I have a responsibility to moderate its progress.

So I seek more control in this role. Just would like to have the power to shut it down if too overbearing.

You mean an in house recorder for collab?

I'm just thinking about storage space... I don't think Brian wants to become a file host.
Keep things simple.

Yes, GREAT idea!

(((((Temporary file share capability for collabs.

Just don't expect Brian to store the files for more than, say 24hrs?

Well this is not humor its facts from Nashville
Mason Douglas. How is AI effecting your business Mason ?

Haven't totally decided yet - there was a slow down when suno became prevalent last year but then it picked back up after some shine wore off. And now it's just the general slow season so we'll see if it comes back up again! It's becoming more of an amateur move to just do all your demos with it - we're seeing the pros using it as a pre-production tool and then getting a real track done, much like you're doing. It's also luckily becoming a no-no to pitch the AI stuff so cross our fingers

Humor is when you go in for a MRI that lasts 20 minutes and sounds like a jack hammer and you have a panic attack . They failed to mention that you need drugs to handle it . so now it's give me drugs and I'll do it again .

Hospital visits are not funny at our age, but it’s offset by the caring professional staff and just a little bit of fentanyl.

The worst MRI I had is when I had polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR). The MRI took 45 minutes, and I was in pain the entire time. It helped to diagnose my problem though. I was on prednisone for a year. Finally went away. Hopefully it never comes back. Recently I had an MRI of my brain. They didn't find anything abnormal. Just normal degeneration for my age. Welcome to old age. The age of Tylenol. Never had mind-altering drugs like fentanyl. Okay, so a favorite topic of old people is talking about their maladies. Did I tell you about my back pain? laugh

Mine are (things I’ve seen on other sites)

1. an in-house audio player

2. The ability for any member to lock a thread.

Bill

Imagine how much fun trolls would have locking every post they did not like.....

An in house player is possible, but would require $ and outside of a half dozen people, donations were sparse this year. Usually I just ask the members on facebook to make up the difference, but we didn't have a crash this year so I didn't want to ask them more than I have to as they do not use the board. We actually fell short of the renewal fee for the site, so I had to use the update money for that. I am working on rescheduling the update, but we have been traveling and our schedule has not matched the tech guy who can do it.

I am working on a massive project at the moment, and once we get to the right point in it, then I should be able to free up some money to do the update and possible add some enhancements, like a file upload for each member who donates to the site to pay for such a feature. No idea the cost until I price it out and decide on the scope. Once the site is updated and new folks come in, if the usual suspects run them off, then it will finally be time to move on from them. But maybe they will play nice. Surprises abound. Things seem relative chill, or at least you are all working it on on your own.

The photo view thing may be able to be changed to a music and video player at some point, though the easiest method for both is to simply get a free Youtube channel, use A.I. to make your title cards, upload your audio there and then link it here. Give it a try, it works fine. I am going to start posting a song a day on Facebook, (already have 1200 songs ready to post), I am waiting to see what happens with Suno when they switch and cancel all their models. It may go significantly backwards or have egregious rules/licensing terms. We will have to see. I have been working with several hit writers and one hit artist who are using Suno on their back catalog. One guy has over 20K songs written with a who's who of LA and Nashville writers, but that only had a guitar vocal demo of each, usually during writing sessions. It is amazing how productive these people can be. They write, write and then write more for 40+ years and it stacks up.

Good questions, but a hard no on letting anyone lock a thread. The audio player in some version is something I would love to do if those using it help pay the cost.

Brian

I just think ( and I don't know if this decreases cost) but there are way way way too many forums on this one board. All those regional boards, who could keep track of all that?

I'd like to be able to attach an mp3 file without it out there streaming somewhere. I don't like to post things on the internet unless I know they're finished, but I like to post small files here to get opinions while we're co-writing.

Yes things are chill for the moment. Using suno as a lyric doc/player works fine.

Don’t need a thread lock either, hoity toity insulting…threads take on life of there own anyway.

The real and maybe underappretiated joy of this site is the archive……let’s go way back and reconnect with Cindy Miller’s amazing-ness 20 years ago!
