Much too long , obviously, but I love the story telling.
V1 When he was 8 and I was 9 he moved next door into 105 I sat on my porch for hours that day I couldn't believe my eyes
he had every game a boy could ever want and every toy I'd ever seen
V2 Daddy pulled up like he did everyday, we settled in for our usual game with one missing dice and a handful of bills, monopoly wasn't the same and I said..
he's got everything game a boy could want and every toy I've ever seen Daddy, why can't I have all those things??
(CHORUS) he said. they don't grow on trees and someday you'll see the time we spend is more precious to me trust me, I know, and you'll see what I mean one day you're gonna believe some things don't grow on trees
V3 Friday I knocked on the new kid's door, I saw a few games do ya got anymore? he said come on in, my dad's runnin late , have you played these games before?
Well he had every game I'd ever heard of neatly stacked and undisturbed it seems the first time that he played, he played with me.
V4 When he finally had boardwalk with all 4 hotels I landed on purpose but he couldn't tell the look on his face and the moment of truth was nothing like I'd ever felt
when he said..
You've got everything a boy could want and all the time you'll ever need My dad always says time isn't free
(CHORUS) and it don't grow on trees and someday I'll see the time that he's away it's all for me do you think that's true? and what does he mean?
I wonder he really sees. some things don't grow on trees
V5 I startled my dad and he laughed out loud when I threw my arms around his neck he smiled he said "ok, what do you want" and what is this all about?
And I said, I've got everything a boy could want and every thing I'll ever need I wanted you to know that I believe........................................DADDY'S DON'T GROW ON TREES . . . .
