Wow—so not even Marty can explain how a 600% drug price reduction is supposed to work. That alone says a lot. Just a few weeks ago, Trump claimed he would bring drug prices down by 1200–1600%. So has his promised reduction suddenly dropped/risen by 1000% since then? None of this makes any sense. You can't reduce prices by more than 100%! Funny, that nobody is asking questions.

Is there anyone here who can explain, in real terms, what these numbers are supposed to mean? It seems like he either doesn’t understand percentages, or he’s just throwing out numbers. That might also explain how he claims prices are “coming down” while inflation is still rising.

I also noticed he repeatedly said things would get better next year. He’s been in charge for the past 11 months and promised price reductions on day one. Now we’re supposed to wait until next year? What went wrong? Oh right—apparently everything he hasn’t achieved is still Biden’s fault. I guess he can say the same thing next year—and the year after that. Honestly, those 18 minutes felt like a complete waste of time.

Drug companies may put a markup on drugs from 1000% to 10,000%, maybe he means he will only allow them to put a 600% markup on them, but he couldn't say it that way because drug companies would not like that. Most people are not good with math. Most Americans believe the import tariffs are paid by the country shipping goods into the US, but it is paid by the companies importing those goods and passed on to the buying public, driving up inflation.

Everett, I get what you're describing but that is not what Trump said. He said drug prices are going down 400, 500, even 600%. Even if the drug companies put a markup of 10000% on their products you can only reduce the price by up to 100% and then they are giving them away for free. The good thing is, if they reduce the price by 100% they won't have to pay tariffs anymore.

Big Pharma is a propaganda war.
On one extreme are people such as the Sacklers and the politicians that they owned.
On the other extreme is the PBS crowd that thinks "Detroit" is still hiding the 100 mpg carburetor and Big Pharma is hiding the cannibis cure for all forms of cancer. That crowd is aided by media outlets who specialize in feeding them red meat distortions. I have personally seen these people say this stuff and mean it at open mics.

This crew here is more the latter.

I am 73 and as interested as anybody in drugs coming down. I try to find out what the real truth is, but it is not available to me. Because all the information I get is filtered through the propaganda wars and the self-serving sound bytes of politicians.

Things that I feel confident in believing:

Trump lies and exaggerrates.
All politicians lie and exaggerate but Trump does not seem real concerned with concealing it.

Trump does appear to be trying to do things that will bring the cost down. That would be a big win for him.

Did Biden/Harris get anything done about the cost of drugs? Maybe, but broadly speaking, nothing that I can see.

There are a lot of drugs out there. Eli Lilly is building a big complex in Houston, allegedly as part of an effort to bring the drugs back to the US and get them out of the hands of foreigners.

Do I know what the relationship between R&D costs, history, and consumers prices are for each and every drug by each and every mfg? No way to know.

Yes. Because he has something substantial to gain from getting it done. That will gain him independents.
