It's not at all hard to be legal, simply buy your downloads or get free downloads that are legally offered by the artist/owner. Instead of filesharing questionable material, send your friends links to artists' websites that offer legally downloadable material. That helps the artist far better than filesharing, you drive folks to their websites where they can learn much more about the artists than they would by recieving a faceless mp3 that is barren of contact info.

Here's a link to my friend Jennifer Brantley:

And here's my friend Jeff Epperson:

I wholly recommend that artists offer free downloads of their material (as long, of course, that it is all material of which they own the rights to do so.) The legally free download is a great way for artists to build their fanbases. But even streaming audio is a good way to get the message out.

You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash
