All I gotta say is take a look at the face of Paul McDonald when Brian S. was "consoling" Pia. His mouth was wide open and his eyes were as big a saucers. The guy can't sing and Pia is the best of the lot- he knows it. But Paul and Stefano are still standing and Pia is gone. The judges are probably wishing that they hadn't saved Casey because he cannot win it all even though he is the most complete "musician" in the contest.
It's a popularity contest and anyone without a good fan base is always vulnerable. Casey didn't have and still doesn't have an identifiable fan base. The ones who do have large enough fans to reach the top three are: Lauren Alaina, James Durbin and Scotty McCreery. Clearly Scotty is not as talented (vocally) as any of the remaining contestants, but that shows you the power of a single demographic (country) to keep their "guy" in it to win it. And after his Elvis song, he picked up some wild eyed star struck preteens to add to the solid country fans. Finally, you have to ask "Who is voting" and who cares enough to vote two, ten or a hundred times? Teen age girls who identify with Lauren, rock on with Durbin and want to go to the prom with Scotty.
