I suspect that my view of organised religion is coloured somewhat by the fact that I have lived much of my life on an island cursed by its consequences - and by the hypocrisy of many of its practitioners.
Laws should fair - and attempt to bright about what is right, rather than dispense justice. Justice is a much abused term - and if it applied equally, we are all damned.
I accept it is possible to draw a distinction between abortion and the death penalty - but I do not approve of either on the basis that to take someone's life is wrong under any circumstances. Of course, different denominations define the 6th (or sometimes 5th) commandment differently. Again, interpretation!
