Jeanster...enjoyed the read here. MY only nit would be to drop "eschew"...don't think your average person, whether religous or not, is gonna have the slightest idea what that words means and your already dealing with a topic that is sometimes difficult to make "conversational"...just my 2 cents...VERY well written as most of yours are.
