Hi everyone! I am new to JPF and also to this forum.. so I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Alexis Anthony and I am a vocal instructor and aspiring musician living in the San Antonio area. A good friend sent me the link to Just Plain Folks, and I'm glad she did. There seems to be a TON of great information and great people here. I am always online, researching and reading about singing and answering my students questions. Thank you for the warm welcome! I do have a question for you singers out there.. I am getting ready to buy a microphone for my home studio. While my knowledge of performance mics is pretty decent, I'm a little lost on the recording side. Can you recommend some good recording mics for vocals in the $500 range? Thanks for your ideas! I always liked the Sennheiser MD421 U4, nice warm sound with a 5 position bass rolloff adjustment and I also liked it for live also. I think it retails for about $485.00 but you can find them for sale for about $350.00 or less. I'm sure you'll find alot of different opinions on mics because I think its a matter of personal preference of the sound you may be looking for. Hope this may help abit.

That is so ironic!! I just sang on one of those last nite ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) I am recording a new song and asked the producer what kind of mic it was and he said a Sennheiser! You might want to consider investing in several different mikes - since they all offer tonal variations and characteristics - some work better for some applications, etc., and you don't always need the most expensive you can afford. I vaguely remember reading that the old road-worthy Shure 57 - was the mike of choice for one song in particular on the Michael Jackson "Thriller" recording. ------------------ Tom Tracy http://www.soundclick.com/tomtracy
