I just wrote a song, and a lot of people have told me it has sexual content and uses "dirty" language. That wasn't my intention.
The song is called "Whatever 'It' May Be." It's really about the power of imagination. It never reveals what "it" actually is, inviting listeners to bring their own interpretation. In the end, it's about how we all hear what we want to hear.
"It" could be love, a melody, a dream... or something entirely different. If someone hears something more suggestive, that's a perfectly valid interpretation too.
If you have a few minutes, I'd love for you to give it a listen and tell me what you think "it" is. Do you hear a "dirty" song, or something else entirely?

Whatever "It" May Be
https://soundclick.com/song/15308226

[Instrumental Intro]

[Verse]
I found a little something
That always lifts my mood
Some folks think they know it
But they ain't got a clue
You can take it anywhere
Never leaves a mark
It never fails to make me smile
When the day gets dark

[Pre-chorus]
Everybody's looking
Trying to read my mind
Still they never seem to see
What's hiding in plain sight

[Chorus]
Squeeze it, tease it
Hold it if you need it
Love it, leave it
It will grow if you feed it
Wrap your hands around it
Feel it come alive
Find a little rhythm
Let it take you for a ride
Call it what you want to
I won’t disagree
'Cause what it really means...
Depends on what you see
Squeeze it, tease it...
Whatever "it" may be

[Break]

[Verse]
Some say keep it hidden
Some say show it off
Some folks overthink it
I just laugh it off
If it makes you feel alive
Why apologize?
A little bit of mystery
Looks good in every light

[Pre-chorus]
Everybody's guessing
Whispering their views
Funny how they tell on themselves
Long before they tell on you

[Chorus]
Squeeze it, tease it
Hold it if you need it
Love it, leave it
It will grow if you feed it
Wrap your hands around it
Feel it come alive
Find a little rhythm
Let it take you for a ride
Call it what you want to
I won’t disagree
'Cause what it really means
Depends on what you see
Squeeze it, tease it
Whatever "it" may be

[Bridge]
Maybe you’ve already guessed
Maybe you got it wrong
Maybe you’ve been smiling since
The first line of this song
I could tell you what it is
But where would be the fun?
Some things are much better
When left to everyone

[Interlude]

[Final chorus]
Squeeze it, tease it
Hold it if you need it
Love it, leave it
It will grow if you feed it
Wrap your hands around it
Feel it come alive
Find a little rhythm
Let it take you for a ride
Call it what you want to
I won’t disagree
'Cause what it really means
Depends on what you see
Squeeze it, tease it
Whatever "it" may be

[Outro]
Squeeze it, tease it
Whatever "it" may be
Squeeze it, tease it
It’s whatever you believe

More importantly it makes no sense.

People think its hidden, but its right in plain sight?

If its your prick, you'd be in jail.

If its not, then say what it is

Sounds like a gay anthem.tbh.

Even in songs your trying to outsmart people and argue for attention, that what they think is not what your trying to say.

The idea has been done before, and much better...

Imagine Pete townshend saying this song is not about jacking off, or this other song not a double innuendo.

And also notice how much better they are than your song.

Wrong music, everything to you is a radio country song.

This is wrong in every facet.and definitely does not merit coming to the site and bumping over others as if yours is most important.

Sucksss

Thanks for listening, Dom.
I understand it didn't work for you, and that's completely fair. My intention wasn't to outsmart anyone or hide one "correct" meaning. The idea was simply to leave "it" undefined and let listeners bring their own interpretation to the lyric.
If you hear a sexual meaning, that's a perfectly valid reading. If someone else hears love, a melody, a dream, or something entirely different, that's equally valid.

The song never defines what "it" is. That's intentional. The chorus is built around a double entendre, so listeners are free to interpret it however they like. You asked me what “it” is. I already said what “it” could be:

For example, "it" could simply be love.
• Squeeze it, tease it – Love should have both affection and playfulness.
• Hold it if you need it – Hold on to love when life gets difficult.
• Love it, leave it – Love is a choice. Sometimes you embrace it, and sometimes the healthiest choice is to let it go.
• It will grow if you feed it – Love grows when you nurture it with trust, kindness, time, laughter, and attention.
• Wrap your hands around it – Embrace it. Protect it. Treasure it.
• Feel it come alive – Relationships flourish when both people invest in them.
• Find a little rhythm – Every couple develops their own rhythm and way of moving through life together.
• Let it take you for a ride – Let love carry you through life's adventures.
• Call it what you want to / I won't disagree – Everyone has their own definition of love.
• 'Cause what it really means / Depends on what you see – The meaning belongs to the listener.

I can give you a bunch more examples.
For me, that's really the point of the song. It isn't about one specific thing. It's about the fact that we all bring our own experiences - and imaginations - to a lyric. Whatever "it" may be. 😊

Hey Bill,
Maybe the "big reveal" is that there isn't one. 😉
The song is really about how we all bring our own experiences and imaginations to a lyric. Whatever you think "it" is... you're probably right.
What would you add to make it more than just a 'good start'?

We all bring our own to song.communicate that.test it in audience response.

That is difficult to do in these Internet forums sometimes.

But I just repeated what FD said. Sorry, didn’t mean to pile on. What the audience hears….is the writers responsibility…if the general language is perceived as sexual….that is the writers fault, if that was not the overall intent.

Your message is….we hear what we want to hear…I know. But only because you explained that. No?

PS

Thanks, Bill. That's actually thoughtful feedback, and I think I understand what you're saying.
You're right that if most listeners hear the song one way, that's something the writer has to pay attention to. I don't disagree with that.
Where we may differ is that, in this case, I intentionally wrote the lyric as a double entendre. I wanted listeners to project their own meaning onto "it" rather than me defining it. So if one person hears love, another hears a melody, and someone else hears something sexual, I don't see any of those as "wrong." To me, that's the experiment.
You also make a fair point about whether the deeper idea comes across without my explanation. That's something I'll think about. Maybe the song succeeds simply as a playful double entendre, and maybe the philosophical layer is too subtle. Either way, I appreciate you taking the time to explain your thoughts.

Lol, Rob,

Going back and forth about how its perceived, is pointless, somebody has to hear it, first of all

You can't write a song and then force feed it.

Write a better one, and All this jibberish becomes moot.

Spend your time writing the better song, not arguing if this is good.

You always say you're as good as Dylan . Best writer on all sites lol. You just push buttons like everyone else. you should buy a dumbbell for that finger . Need some exercise . Must get cramps pushing buttons all day. Shite damn robot , it took 40 seconds to make this song . Let's improve it. Man I'm broke I spent 10 bucks a month , Where's the justice in this world. Never said I was good as Dylan, id be a fool to say that.

Your guy here thinks he's the only one on the site, and keeps seeking attention, while blockng the rest.

He seeks replies so he can keep bumping his stuff up.

The bottom line is this is not very good, it doesn't make it better, if people comment on whether or not they think they know what he means..

The site is nearly dead, this will finish it

Voices and guitars live in closets collecting dust . in 20 years people will so stupid from using AI , they'll have to go back to school to spell music . Everything is so fake now , honesty offends them. Well back to instagram and dogs driving cars . Reality is bad for me. Thats Suno on the right . No sense of humor
