I think that is a common misperception in song critiquing. You don't have to be a better songwriter than someone (or "know more") to make meaningful and helpful critiques. You just have to be able to articulate what you like and don't like about a song. It is up to the writer to decide what to use and what to ignore.

If I have to be better than someone here to comment on a tune, then I might as well just not participate anymore.
