Hi Mike, WOW!!! You have never critiqued (if that's a word) one of my songs but when you do you REALLY do! First things that really struck me, you said exactly the same thing as one of the pro crits I have about making v2 v1. Also she/he said v1 was vague. The whole song is vague really. Like I told Stan it's very hard for me to be objective about this song, I'm too close to it, and to me it's perfectly clear! I’m going to study this critique and I’m going to fix this lyric if it’s the last thing I ever do!! I’m not a quitter and I know Terry isn’t either, we decide a while back that it was worth continuing to work on.You have helped me more than all of the critiques put together, and there must be 4-5 of them so far! What was really so confusing is one of the coaches at Songu said "I wouldn't change a word in the lyric" then (the same coach) said it's too vague, make v2 v1, lol and I still didn't want to change a thing!! My husband loved the verses, I loved them, I didn't want to change them...I FINALLY understand why I need to...It's not even the verses that I'm in love with now, it's the beautiful music that the verses inspired Terry to write, so they have served their purpose already... I’m going to study this critique and I’m going to fix this lyric if it’s the last thing I ever do!! I’m not a quitter and I know Terry isn’t either, we decide a while back that it was worth continuing to work on. Thank you SO much!!! I am really thrilled that you took the time to help me understand!! Dottie Hi Dottie Thanks YOU! especially for being so professional about it and cool. Ya know your not the first person to tell me that the pro critiques mentioned all or part of the same of what I did. Hey maybe I'm a Pro! LOL Last week or so one of our kids here was working on there song. She is VERY talented, she's 15 now. As we were trying to add things to her song's production, it just wasn't jiving, the fiddle and then the pedal steel... I mean technically or even musically you'd think they would have worked great. Maybe it wasn't the right parts or whatever. I turned to her and said, "ya know the song is beautiful and your usually spot on in your arranging of a natural, catchy and commercial song. I can tell that all the lyrics count in this one and hate to suggest editing it. But maybe we feel we have to add these instruments to make something happen over these sections because there a bit too long. Less effective for the musics sake. What your calling a first verse still I'm calling a second verse or a pre-chorus" What do you think? Well the kid say's "you know I been thinking about this song and yes your right in that all the words have a special meaning and count. There are no "throw away lines" "as you put it" in the song. I have an alternate lyrical idea to try. Can you cut these sections out of the song!!" I told her of course I can, And also that I'm really proud of her for not only the work but to TAKE away her lyrics that meant so much. She smiled and said oh good and thanks for understanding how hard that was for me too do, I'd knew you'd get it and appreciate that. WELL... Hello! Now that is BIG part of what will make this 15 year old a star one day. She could of just thrown a hissy drama queen teenage girl fit LOL She'll save that for something else maybe The point is very simple in just that it really matters alot to us to have respect for each others work and feelings. To try to think a bit before speaking and make sure the other person knows where your coming from. REALLY KNOWS! The kid respects me for more than one reason and the more I work with her I am doing the same. As a matter of fact I may make an mp3 post with her next. Instead of invading yours Dottie lol. The thing that made me think of it was your AWESOME response. Recognizing what's going on in your song from ALL the angles. Like : My husband loved the verses, I loved them, I didn't want to change them... I FINALLY understand why I need to...It's not even the verses that I'm in love with now, it's the beautiful music that the verses inspired Terry to write, so they have served their purpose already...And! Good for you, and when we do "stop" and say that's it man, I can't do anymore with this song lets move on". At least you know you gave it your best and you set your bar a bit higher. Whatever or which ever way it takes to eventually make what you can do naturally and that high bar be one in the same. All the best! Mike

"Defeatist Pessimists and Rose Colored Glasses Optimists are lonely companions, victims even. Both ideologies imply predestined outcomes, and therefore breed inactivity in its victims. Inaction is the only sure way to lose at anything in life. All positive action guarantees at least a fighting chance." -Brian Austin Whitney
