My name is Chip Boaz and I'm a bassist and music teacher in the San Francisco Bay Area. I've been playing bass for about 17 years, and have spent time playing in a variety of different styles, ranging from jazz to rock to funk to reggae to country. For the last 6 years or so, I've been concentrating on my love for Afro-Cuban jazz and salsa. I think its an incredibly interesting bass style with a rich history. I play with a variety of latin jazz and salsa groups in San Francisco. For the past couple of years I have cut back to only a couple of gigs a week since I now have a full time music teaching gig at a high school. I have been doing more writing lately and been recording some demos to pull together my concept of a bass centered latin jazz style. You can check out some of my demos (MIDI with me playing bass and in some cases percussion) at the soundclick site below. I would love any feedback you've got to give me! I am always looking for collaborators (in any style), so if you're interested, e-mail me! Would love to do more bass duet, trio, etc . . too, so bass players, let's get together! I play a fretted Yamaha TRB-6P 6 string, a fretless Tobias 5 string, and occassionally a fretted '73 Fender P-Bass. Glad to see so much bass discussion on this board - let's keep pulling the bottom line! Chip Boaz www.soundclick.com/chipboaz
