Marty,
I can't recall that the Europeans ever asked for American troops in Ukraine. And as far as I know America never sent any money over there. We sent weapons that were made here in America. That war created/secured a lot of jobs in the U.S. and most of it was financed with the seized Russian assets. That was a pretty good deal for the U.S. I'm pretty sure Trump is stopping that now.
Putin wants all of Ukraine. That's what Trump offered (a deal with the devil - Putin - and no security guarantees). On top of that Trump wanted money (minerals). I'm sure you know there was a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine in 2019 which Russia broke. That's why the security guarantees are so important for Ukraine. I assume Europe won't ask for money like Trump did and they will will continue supporting Ukraine in the hope that Russia suffers so badly that they won't be able to launch another attack on a neighboring country within the next decade or two.

One thing is pretty clear after this event: America is not the leader of the free world anymore.

Take care - Robert
