A while back Glynda wrote and posted the personal story, of a part of her life and after I read the story, I asked if I could put her story to song. She agreed and well folks here it is. I just hope that I got it right. God Bless Roy and Helen and Glynda http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10502576or youtube lyrics only video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61Yv_n2mrE4The Only Love We'd Known - (c) Roy Cooper and Glynda Duncan 2010 My kids think I'm the best For them I know it's true, If you could hear my words mum I would say the best was you. I've stood by your grave Many times this 40 years Going over memories As I wipe away my tears. Chorus Mother you took your own life Leaving us five girls alone We lost our greatest joy that day The only love we'd known What was on your mind mum What hell were you going through I wished you had talked to me Was there nothing I could do Don't know why you did it mum What drove you to despair? When I came home from school I found the sheriff waiting there. Chorus Mother you took your own life Leaving us five girls alone We lost our greatest joy that day The only love we'd known Bridge. I remember how you taught me mum to do the high school cheer I was rushing home to tell you I was picked from my jun'yer year But I never got to do that cheer, cause I took your place alone Pickin' cotton in the fields, so as to keep the girls at home I brought my sisters up As if I was their mum I tried to teach them Gods way In everything I've done You called me your sweet Glendale, I'd sit upon your knee You loved to hear me singing Please sing again you'd plea Chorus Mother you took your own life Leaving us five girls alone We lost our greatest joy that day The only love we'd known Tag: Now I have grownup kids and some grand-children too We play 'round and make mud-pies just like we used to do I wish that you was here now, you would have been so proud Maybe you're looking down mum, from one of heavens clouds I wish that you was here now, you would have been so proud Maybe you're looking down mum, from one of heavens clouds

Roy,
This is so beautiful, you did such a great job with this, I never got to know my grandmother, but I know she's smiling today too.
Mother is still listening to this and still crying but I won't let her get up. So, I'm sending you this note from her and myself, she's telling me how to do all this, hope I did it right. Sherri, Glynda's good and beautiful daughter.
Thanks Sherri Perkins

Roy, I am so sure this means a lot to Glynda. I enjoyed the listen and it was good of you to do this one for her. It is a pretty one, lyrically and musically/vocally. Kimberly

This does mean alot to me, that was such a tragic thing to happen to a teenager, to anyone...changed my life....but to have such a wonderful song come out of it from a special friend way across the world...yep, this means alot to me....

Hello Glyn & Roy! Beautifully done, both lyrics and music. The only nit I have is that I lost interest along the way -- can't say exactly what it is -- maybe the lyrics can be condensed more -- make the points you want to make with less words and get out at about two minutes and fifty seconds or so. I would like to thank everyone who left such good comments on this song.
It is a personal story of Glynda's, that after reading, I just felt had to be done.
Probably too sad for radio play, but as I said, I felt it had to be done.
And I am so very pleased with the result and that Glynda loves it.
God Bless to all from me and Helen and Glynda

Roy, Glyn,
This is a very good piece of music. I have been touched so deeply by this song. I don't think I could have said it any better or more thoughtful. Roy, you have done such a pure and beautiful thing here. It goes to show what a wonderfully thoughtful person you truly are.
Glyn, my heart aches for you every time I am reminded of the tragedy and hardship that your eyes have seen. I only hope and pray that you are blessed like Job and you will get much more in your life than the things that were stolen from you. You deserve every bit of joy and happiness that comes your way.
With all the sincerity that my heart can muster, Danny

Hi Roy & Glynda Roy you got it right, absolutely beautiful, and the singer Wow, I'm impressed. Who's singing it? Michele, I am so pleased that you liked the song. The singer is one half of the husband and wife team who do some of my demos for me. He did the music and she the singing. (they both sing as well) If you ever need their details, just drop me a PM. God Bless from me and Helen and Glynda

This really touched my heart. My wife's mother died when she was very young so I can very much relate to it seeing the void that she's lived with.

Roy,
Beautiful job on this song! Very sad but heartfelt lyrics. I'm sorry Glynda that you had to go through this. Makes me feel like my life hasn't been so tough after all!
The first soundclick link did not work for me but I found the video on your website. Nice site btw. I did not know you had so many videos! Very cool.

Hey, Roy And Glynda, a beautiful song, on alas a tragic topic, but the love that was incorporated into the lyrics shines bright. There are no real answers as to why someone choose to die, but obviiously she has lived on in your hearts, and always will, thus this song.~~~MFB III

HiDee Roy & Mz G & your Demo Folks,
This IS a Truly-Beautiful Job here/Very Pleasant..yet-sad..to Listen To.
I think with a few-less Personal Things in-here you WOULD have a Commercial Song. (& you'll have to decide what to leave-in/take-out, should you ever want to Go That Route..down-the-pike.)
I've seen No Mention of "What-Happened-To-Dad"..& that'd need some Explanation in a Commercial Version.
I'd rather hear "The DEEPEST Love we'd known" since "ONLY" is tough to believe. (Hey, there's Grandparents, & Neighbors, Each-Other &...yeah, US, the Listeners.)
Plotline-Wise..WISH there WAS some hint at Why Mom Was SO-Depressed. Behind every Movie..even the 3-minute-kind..there's that detail called "Motivation". Was it Dad..Pills..Alcohol..Bills...? ANY hint'd make this a Better Story, JMO. (WHY? Because Mz G's Overcome...ALL-The-Above.)
She certainly has My Sympathy..(& my Grampa Good committed suicide..after a fall resulted in 50% paralysis..leaving my Gramma with 5 kids-to-raise..just like Glyn was left-with..so I for-SURE Identify with her plight.) Sainthood..that's what these "Captive Moms" all deserve.
Waal, back to Lurk Mode, after I say "KUDOS" for What's-Here, & Good Job on a Tough Subject.
Best Wishes & Big Hugs, All-Around! Stan

Thanks for stopping by Stan and for your lovely comments and thoughts. When I wrote this to Glynda’s story, I always felt it should be on a personal level and wasn’t ever thinking of it being commercial. I do feel that the song makes it obvious that Dad isn’t around and the love I talk about is a young Childs love for a mother, that IMO is a special love and stands out against any other (at least most times). But I do see what you mean. As it is Glynda’s story and as you say beautiful, I will leave this one alone…. It’s better than I intended and expected. Real sorry to hear that you had such a tragedy in your life as well. Thanks again friend for stopping by for a listen and for your nice comments God Bless Roy Helen and Glynda

Myself and older sister had the same father, he wasn't around for many years, he died several years later of a massive heart attack..the 3 younger ones had the same father..he was a Dallas policeman and was moved to Florida somewhere after the Kennedy shooting????? But he and my mother had already divorced. My mom was married and the day she passed, he (being our stepfather) went to his mothers house and we didn't see him much..
My mom did not leave a note, so we don't know for sure the exact reason why..anyway, I love what Roy has done with this and I appreciate all of you listening to it...thanks alot..

Stan, I'm so sorry you lost your grandpa bu suicide..it doesn't matter the age or reason, it's a terrible thing to have to go through. And when you don't know the reason why, like my mom, you wonder so many times..WHY, but I guess that wasn't for us to know...don't know what to say here, cause we'll never know for sure why.
This song brings back all those memories of that day, but I'm so happy to have this song...does help after all these years..
Again thank you Roy....

Glad you bumped it Glyn or I would have missed it. This is very touching - I would have thought so even if it wasn't autobiographical from someone I know. Nicely done. And kudos to you, Roy, for putting it together! Scott

Roy and Glyn,
Beautiful song...both words and music. The recording cuts off at the end where it could have faded out and it is a bit harsh on the vocal on the letter "S". Some de-essing would help the recording a lot. It's a bit long for radio play but if it's just for your own self satisfaction and Glyns, it's a fine display of work.

Hey Doug, I got your PM, thank you, yes tis is a hard subject, but hopefull this song, may or will help someone else down the road in seeing that they aren't the only ones that's gone thru this, and they not need to feel ashamed, or angry, or guilty...it's just sad that it took me 40 years to even write the story of how I felt....but, now i'm thrilled that Roy took the steps and had the heart to get the song done..just great..all i can say, it's great....and Roy and Helen will be in my heart forever..

Hi Roy, Glynda,
Wow ... amazing story. The song does a great job telling it in a way that is more hopeful than tradgic. The chorus melody is very nice - love that harmony..
Yes i can see how this could inspire and help others.
thank you very much for sharing it. g

Glen, Again, thank you for listening to this song, Roy put into a song what I had trouble even writing down on paper, my heart and thoughts were everwhere...but it's not hard remembering...so I wrote it down rather fast as going through that day and night, i'm sure there are things I don't want to remember, that whole year was a hard one to bear on each of us...you know, the first Christmas without her, the first Thanksgiving without her, and so on...some times we'd all just cuddle together and hold each other and not say a word...but, now we're all grown and only the memories are left...and we're ok....thank God for that, he was there for us, everywhere we went, all the time, whenever we needed him, that's what mostly got us through..
sorry, for going off....i'm really ok..and all this still helps...
