Hi Everyone, Well I finally had my demo redone.I sent it to Kevin Wicker and I feel that he did an awesome job with it.The melody and lyrics are much the same as before, but to me the music sounds much more contemporary..Please let me know what you think of it,as so many of you have been so supportive of me and of this song and I truly value the opinion of each and every one of you..And thank you Kevin Wicker!!! Edit:Found that the song had not successfully uploaded to my soundclick page.I didnt realize that almost a minute and a half of the song was missing!!It should work now...Thanks guys!! http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=10373381&q=hi&newref=1Single Mommy U (C)2011 Michelle Chapman Verse 1: Tying up shoelaces, taking out the trash babies are all hungry, and I aint got no cash. I can't believe he walked away and left us all alone, I'm down, but I'm not out. I'm gonna make this house a home. Oh I love to see those babies smile , it's what my lifes about, but they all need new shoes, and the credit cards maxed out. Chorus: Oh I loved him and he left me, and he left them too. They never asked for none of this , what's a girl suppose to do? They're hungry and their crying, nothing in this world is free, it's the school of hard knocks, and I'm earning my degree. Learned enough of lifes lessons to last my whole life through, but that's higher education at Single Mommy U. Instrumental Verse 2 : He said it'd be forever, but we never stood a chance, every pretty girl that came along, he gave them all a glance. Never thought that it would be like this, there's times I wanna cry, I'm on my knees, begging please, give me the strength to try. Though times are rough, I've gotta be tough, I've got to see this through, Gonna graduate with honors from Single Mommy U. Chorus Oh I loved him and he left me, and he left them too. They never asked for none of this , what's a girl suppose to do? They're hungry and their crying, nothing in this world is free, it's the school of hard knocks, and I'm earning my degree. Learned enough of lifes lessons to last my whole life through, but that's higher education at Single Mommy U. tag out: Listen all you young girls, Better make sure his love's true or you'll find yourself attending class at Single Mommy U......

Michele-I am so glad you finally got this done........sounds fine except for one thing......at the end the song cuts off at the words "SINGLE MOMMY" instead of "Single Mommy U"...... do you have another recording of it from Kevin Wicker? shame cause its well done otherwise........do you know what the problem is? sounds to me like a recording error by Kevin......little thing but important.....its a first rate song and you deserve a first rate error free recording to present to Nashville.......

Hey, this is a much better demo. Still has a little touch of the old school in it, which is OK. Is this the same demo singer or a different one? Anyway, I always liked this -- even when it was only lyrics. Congrats on a super song and a mighty fine demo.
EDIT: OK, the demo just cut out -- that's is just a problem in the mp3, they wouldn't have recorded it that way (even if they wanted to -- ha, ha). The whole tag ending is missing
Kevin

Hey Michelle,
Well done, lovely vocal quality. Very good work by your producer. It's a nice mix. I have no idea at all what makes a good country song so I can't comment on the actual song but it's the best demo quality that I've heard on here so far so you are definitely heading in the right direction. Keep up the good work. Keep loving your music and hopefully it will be a hit like Tom says.

Hi Michelle,
Really nice song, production and mix. I noticed a coupe of things. At 0:15/0:16 seconds there is an audible click, probably a bad edit. Overall the mix is a little muddy - most noticeable in the lead vocals and guitars. This would best be addressed during mixing, but also in mastering if a re-mix isn't possible. I would cut some lows and lower mids - nothing radical, just a dB or two would do the trick.
Good luck!
Matt

Hi Matt, I dont know anything at ALL about the technical aspects of music production. Thanks for pointing out these issues though,as I do want it to be the best demo possible, because I plan to pitch it like crazy.Hopefully some of my friends here will listen also and perhaps hear the problems that you are hearing, and maybe guide me as to what I need to do the remedy the situation.I really do wish that I understood these things more. Thanks you SO much for letting me know of these potential problems.Hopefully its nothing too serious... Hi Michelle,
Wow--the first song I've herd you do--loved it loved it loved it. I've been thinking about working with Kevin on a couple of my songs--I think he did a great job with this one. The lyrics are totally cool. I love the lines it's the school of hard knocks, and I'm earning my degree.
Learned enough of lifes lessons to last my whole life through,
but that's higher education at Single Mommy U.
It sounds like you've worked on this one a bit. well you should feel proud that you saw it thru--I could hear this on the radio no problem. You should be very proud of this one. Take care Roger

Michelle,
The issue with the mix being muddy is fairly nit-picky. For shopping the song around, what you have is great. However, if you plan to release it to the public, I would look into having someone do some quick EQ tweaks. If it comes to that, and you have any questions about how to do that, let me know.
With regards to the click I mentioned at 0:15, that is something you should have Kevin Wicker fix (especially if you paid him). It's just a mistake that he overlooked, or something went awry when he bounced the mix to file.

Michelle, you're right to be proud of this one. I remember how much work you put into it. It certainly deserves to be pitched and picked up. So many gals can relate to the story. Donna

Matt, Thanks for trying to clear that up for me.I have played it through several times, and I dont hear the click.I am not doubting your word, but my hearing is very poor, and also my speakers are not very loud at all..I will try to play it on a better stereo system to see if I can hear the click. The demo would be used for pitching purposes only, but I really do want the best sound quality possible...Thanks again for pointing out this issue............Michelle

Michelle,
Good speakers and a quiet listening environment are key to hearing those nasty little clicks...and some practice. The click is only in the left channel. And yes, I'm a bit hyper-sensitive to that stuff. :-) A decent pair of headphones can also be a good help.

Dottie, Thank you so much for listening and for your really kind remarks.I've been working on this one for a couple of years now.Its pretty much my life story in a song..But I feel that many single mommies can relate...I can only hope that someone in Nashville will be as kind as my friends here at JPFs. Hi Michelle,
I enjoyed it too…nicely done all around. The lyric is clever…and the song has some nice attitude going! They did a great job on this for you.
I wish you luck with it!
