Hi Folks,
Things are off to a great start at our new Los Angeles chapter and it's my hope we can continue to expand beyond our other successes in Tampa, Buffalo and Orange County. I am looking for some NYC coordinators, perhaps in more than 1 location due to sheer size, but we'd be happy to start with 1. We also have coordinators in place for Chicago, Indianapolis and Nashville but we haven't pulled the trigger on restarting meetings there.
To start a chapter, you only need a volunteer coordinator (the person who interfaces with me and oversees the events/activities, not doing all the work (unless they want to) but enlisting help from the other members and being the person who supervises that it gets done as needed) and 10 interested local musicians, songwriters and industry professionals. We can start a chapter with only a coordinator, but meetings won't start until a larger number can be found. (And we already have members blanketing North America and there are 10 music folks in nearly any small or large town in the world).
Email me at jpfolkspro@aol.com with "Chapter" and your town in the subject so I can find it easily and inside tell me what you have in mind and what you know about music in your town. All genres and levels of experience are welcome.
Last night I visited the Los Angeles Chapter meeting via Skype and spoke to folks and watched the rest of the meeting and it was almost like being there in person. I am happy to do the same with any other chapter, old or new, if you can find someone with a laptop set up with video/audio and skype (standard on nearly all laptops sold in the last few years).

It was an awesome meeting. Randy Tobin has started the group, and so far so good.
I was the fortunate speaker who was able to share the meeting with Brian. It truly was awesome.
Brian, I've had many of the guys in attendance write me and tell me how awesome it was! There's nothing like hearing from you, the founder of JPF, to really get a sense of what JPF is all about.
Skyping really works! I plan to now get it for co-writing with some Swedish songwriters I've been working with.
Looking forward to more LA meetings, with both of you in attendance!

Thanks Bettie! You did a great job and even I didn't know how accomplished you really are. I believe another JPF member Don Rosler (who won for co-writing our Song of the Year in 2002 for "Christine's Refrigerator" (look it up, it's a breathtaking song) was doing some writing on the Spiderman Musical which I think you said you did some copyist work on right? (Or did I misunderstand that?).
I hope you'll also spend some more time here, we sure could use another diverse pro like yourself here to mentor others and share your unique perspectives. Perhaps you could write an informative article for the newsletter as well.
