I've been in the studio all this week working on an album for Kacie Edwards. Kacie is a pop, bluesy, torchy ballad singer. One of the songs, "Bobby Van" is out and out rockabilly. That's one of the songs that the Jordanaires will be singing on. Her manger/producer is Barry McCloud. I've gotten to play upright and electric bass as well as act as session leader and assistant producer. The band includes folks who have recorded with Garth Brooks, Hootie and the Blowfish, Roy Orbison and Doc Watson. Needless to say, I'm pumped about this. If you don't know who the Jordanaires are, google them.

Thank God for all the wonderful gifts. smile

I see they also recorded with Tennessee Ernie Ford, too...my Favorite Pea-Picker back in the '60's when I was a kid.

Should be a Real-Memorable...& Legendary..Occasion, Amigo!

Congrats from the Now-Ol' Floridian Orange-Picker!

How are these guys doing now? Can they live of off their back catalogue, and can they still find work?

Sounds like a magic mix of talent.

Not only do I know who Garth Brooks, Roy Orbison and the Jordanaires are but to show what a small world this is. If Barry McCloud is from the UK then my Helen did a couple of songs with him way, way back. Good tracks as well.

Anyway Mike your having fun and getting paid..wow.

God Bless Roy and Helen

Thanks, folks, yep, they were, are, and will be a gospel vocal group. Members of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, they were asked years ago to sing backup in the studios of Nashville. They sang on Patsy Cline's "Crazy." It was later that Chet Atkins asked them to sing on some cuts by a young singer that just signed to RCA...Elvis Presley. But when they sing by themselves, they sing Gospel.

It was a great experience, I got them to sign a number chart I wrote. It was a Jordanaire that started the Nashville number system decades ago to get their parts faster. The other musicians at sessions saw what they were doing and copied the system, so it was wonderful to get their autograph on my chart.

Overall, its' been a very busy month with sessions and is continuing into November. Off to one today. God's been good. smile

Congratulations Mike. Those guys are a hoot. I have worked with them a few times, in the studio and live. A few years back I was asked by the president of the Rick Nelson Fan Club in England about putting together a tribute show and requested the Jordinares. Everything was good until Sept.11th.

But those people from England came over anyway and we had all kinds of people that had known and worked with Rick. The Jordinaires were a big part of that.

Great you get to work with history. Tell them I said hello and thank them for all of us for what they have done for music.

Holy toasted ravioli Footman,
they originated the Nashville number system? Truly an honor to work with them. Looking at their discography it doesn't seem as if they've slowed down any.

Have fun,

I'm glad that spammer posted so I'd see this thread again, LOL. Brian, here's the number chart I wrote with the Jordanaires autographs.

Hey Brian, Yeah, Mr. Walker worked with them since '58. He wasn't in on the first recordings, but did record and perform with the King. Louis Nunley has been baritone with them for quite a while, he was the bass singer for the Anita Kerr Singers, he never did sing with Elvis while the King was alive, but along with member Michael Black, recorded with Elvis after his death for a Christmas duets album.

The fourth member that day's first name was Mark, can't remember or make out his last name on the autograph smile
