Twenty years, but it seems like yesterday,
you said goodbye, and it still makes me cry.
now it’s just fading memories, of the man you use to be,
You taught me the importance, of an honest day’s work,
And that the quality, of your integrity, defines your worth.

You see I am the man I am, because of you,
All the things you taught me carry over from my youth.
How to hunt that buck, catch a fish, or just let loose.
You were a father, but you so much more to me,
You are the missing piece, taken from our family.

As a sportsman, you truly were, one of a kind,
and you always caught your limit, time after time,
In a forest dense with pine, driving that old truck,
You always knew just where to find the biggest buck.
I don’t hunt and fish much now, I know you’d think that’s lame,
But being in those woods and rivers, well, it just don’t feel the same.

You see I am the man I am, because of you,
All the things you taught me carry over from my youth.
How to hunt that buck, catch a fish, or just let loose.
You were a father, but you so much more to me,
You are the missing piece, taken from our family.

You were a vet, you served your country faithfully,
Well I am too, carrying on that tradition, respectfully.
I have children of my own, they’re raised and moved away,
But the lessons that you taught me, I still pass on to this day.

Dad, I miss you and I’m proud to be your son,
In everything I do, you are a part of me,.
I am, oh yes i am, my fathers son.
