I just finished talking to a reporter from my local newspaper. My song "Edgar Watson's Grave" http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=400209&content=music won third place in a song contest sponsored by their Sunday magazine "Tropicalia". There are no cash prizes, just a mention of the song, my name and web site. I hope to get some local visitors and sell a few downloads. The reason that I didn't win the contest was because my song wasn't cheery enough. They wanted a song that has a positive message of the area where I live, but that's OK I still came in third and I get free publicity. Yes their were more than three entries.

Congratulations Ben... But did you introduce the judges to Ironhead, and tell 'em "don't make me bring out Creampuff CUPCAKE!"? Hee hee hee. Actually, good for you. Nice way to end out the year... ! Happy Holidays, Beth

Beth, if you mean "Cupcake", yes he is the mean one. "Ironhead" looks mean but he is very gentle.
Thanks Everett, I think that Scott's harmony and harp playing really made "The Rainmaker".
Thanks always Emily, it's a small victory (3rd place), but worth the recognition. The judge actually liked my song the best but couldn't allow me to win because it wasn't upbeat enough. They needed a song that the Chamber Of Commerce would except and mine was a tragic story, but I'm glad that I entered it anyway.

Thanks Doc. I just read the first article in the Sunday paper. They only wrote a small paragraph about me and didn't publish a link to my web site. They didn't do that for any of the winners. Too bad. They said that they will publish links next week in the larger article, so you have to go to their website to hear the songs. I'll leave a link to todays article below. It is under the "Music" section. Second place went to an old friend and mentor of mine, Tommy Powell. I was really glad to see that. I didn't even know that he entered the contest. I learned a lot about music from him. Ben http://www.news-press.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=ENT

Yipppppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! If it wasn't "cheery" enough you'll have to write another one where Edgar comes out the grave, regrets his evil doings, repents, spends time in jail for his previous acts, but is released early for rescuing the prison's warden from an inmate who takes him hostage, goes back to the plantation where he works the soil and grows only organic food that he gives away free to the locals as part of his way to seek forgiveness! Congrats, Lynn
