I'm parting with my soundcard, a Creamware Luna II. This sold new for about $200, but it has been outfitted with over $1,000 worth of plugins. Many of these plugins individually sell for $200 today. They include:

The card is a standard PCI card. It has a flexible software mixer and most importantly, 3 DSP chips that allow you to run the processing plugins that I have listed above. PSY-Q and OptiMaster alone are pretty amazing for mastering. Sound quality is top notch. And if you are into software-based production (eg. electronic music) then you'll love it. If you want to expand later on to some of Creamware's newer, more expensive & advanced cards, this will integrate flawlessly into your setup.

I am willing to part w/ the whole thing for $400 counting shipping. I live in Philadelphia, PA and will ship via FedEx.

A few questions:

does it handle midi files? If yes, what is the quality?

what os does it run on?

will all the standard soundforge plug-ins run on it?

what did you buy to replace it? I assume you went for something better =:-)

Hi Richard-

1) To be honest I don't usually mess with MIDI playback much. This card can play 'em back like any other soundcard. It doesn't have any special MIDI soundfonts built in, so it will probably use the Windows Wavetable synth for the MIDI sounds.

2) I know for sure it runs on Windows, and the latest cards by Creamware run on Mac also. I can ask at PlanetZ.com (a huge + active support forum for this family of cards) if it runs on Mac too, since it's a slightly older model.

3) Any plugins you already use will work fine, since they run off of your computer's processor. The plugins that come with this card run off of the card's DSP chips. In other words, the two types of plugins are independent of eachother.

4) Well, I initially bought it for my old hand-built PC which had lots of PCI slots. However, about a month ago I got a new PC from a manufacturer, I found that it was almost impossible to open the thing up and add my old DSP cards. Not only that but it only had two slots to begin with, and one of them was inaccessible. So, I decided to get a Firewire interface instead (Presonus Firebox).

I had to sell my other DSP card too unfortunately (Powercore Element).

The Firebox is good - $300, stable, works at pretty low latencies. However it has no DSP chips or built-in plugins, and you can't do fancy internal routings like you can with the Creamware Luna II card.
