will singing with a sore throat make it worse?

Short answer - yes. In fact, it could cause serious life-long damage.

IF you are a well-trained professional singer with good vocal technique, you might be able to get away with singing a song or two with technique if the throat is not severely inflamed.

If you've got a sore throat, rest the voice (and that means talking as well), get plenty of sleep (the body repairs itself when sleeping), and drink light herbal teas or soft juices. Honey seems to help too. I like grapefruit juice.

If your sore throat persists for more than 4 or 5 days, get thyself to a doctor - strep throat seems to be going around these days, or you could have an ear inflection or... in other words, get it checked out.

Just one final note - if your throat is sore after singing, you need to take some voice lessons and learn the skills required to protect & support your instrument.
