I don't know how, but I've managed to get two first-place wins this year, both for lyrics, in the Unisong and the Austin Songwriters Group competitions. I also took second place in the ASG, and two of my songs were finalists in the lyric and inspirational categories. I've had a couple honorable mentions before in Unisong and once in the American Song Festival, which is ancient history (1982). It was nice to get two different songs in two different contests, because it helps to know it wasn't just a fluke. Anyway, I've been at this for many years, and I just turned 50 this year, so I hope that's encouraging to all you who have been plugging away - never give up. I'd quit doin' Contests since an ASF "Quarter-Finalist" (Lyrics Div/) win set me back $40 in Entry Fees back in the '80's, but, YEAH, those "Wins" under your name look GREAT...& Congratulations for The WINS...(Must be a LOT More Competition than back in the '80's, too!)

Thanks, Stan. I remember the ASF. I've had a couple honorable mentions in that and in the Unisong contest before, but getting a first place is a much better boost, needless to say. I hadn't entered anything for a long time. It's interesting, because one of my wins was for a song I wrote back in 1980, and the other was for one I wrote last year.
And I don't know how much mileage one can get out of these things. While it's gratifying, you don't hear of many contest winners going on to recording success; at least, I haven't. I know there have been a few, but it's certainly no guarantee of success. How's it been for you?
