Many people don’t actually know what an oxymoron is. When you mention it, they often respond with a question: “What kind of moron?” That gave me the idea for this song. An oxymoron is a figure of speech where two opposite or contradictory words are combined to create a new, often funny or thought-provoking meaning. Examples: • Bittersweet (bitter + sweet) • Pretty ugly (beautiful + unattractive) • Virtual reality (fake + real) • Clean coal (clean + dirty) Oxymorons make language more colorful, ironic, and poetic — they capture the complexity of real life, where things aren’t just black or white. So when I say “What kind of moron is an oxymoron?”, I’m jokingly pretending to misunderstand it as a person (“a moron”), but really, it’s a linguistic contradiction — two words that shouldn’t make sense together, yet somehow do. Even beyond the literal phrases, the song itself is an oxymoron — it’s a smartly silly anthem: playful, self-aware and full of contradictions. I managed to slip 26 oxymorons into the lyrics. If all this sounds confusing – that’s perfectly fitting for a song about contradictions. What Kind of Moron?https://soundclick.com/song/15138234[Instrumental Intro] [Verse] I said I’m writing ‘bout an oxymoron She said, “What kind of moron is that?” I said, “It’s like jumbo shrimp or a silent storm A hot-cool mess in a cowboy hat” [Pre-chorus] It’s bittersweet, it’s seriously fun It’s beautiful nonsense for everyone [Chorus] What kind of moron? — an oxymoron! The smartest dumb thing ever born Like open secrets or plastic glass The more I learn, the less I pass! Yeah, what kind of moron? — an oxymoron! It’s cruelly kind, it turns me on It's who I am, come sing along I’m your favorite oxymoron [Break] [Verse] My love life’s one big contradiction You’re my freezing fire, my sweet addiction You say goodbye, I say “stay near,” We’re alone together, crystal clear! [Pre-Chorus] It’s bittersweet, it’s seriously fun It’s beautiful nonsense for everyone [Chorus] What kind of moron? — an oxymoron! The smartest dumb thing ever born Like living dead or deafening peace It’s common sense with no release Yeah, what kind of moron? — an oxymoron! It’s cruelly kind, it turns me on It's who I am, come sing along I’m your favorite oxymoron [Bridge] Let’s make peaceful noise tonight Love’s wrong and right — we shine so bright! It’s pretty ugly, but that’s our song We’ve been making sense all wrong! [Interlude] [Final Chorus] What kind of moron? — an oxymoron! The smartest dumb thing ever born It’s sweet sorrow, it’s day at night It’s wrong that feels exactly right Yeah, what kind of moron? — an oxymoron! It’s cruelly kind, it turns me on It's who I am, come sing along I’m your favorite oxymoron [Outro] Oxymoron… yeah, that’s me! The smartest fool in history

Hey Ben, Thanks for the feedback! I just wanted to write about something a little different — I doubt anyone’s tackled oxymorons in a song before. It was just a fun challenge to see how many I could fit in. You call it deep, but for me, it was just plain fun!

That is an "awfully good" idea for a song....its addictive! Well done. Bill Thanks so much, Bill — I really appreciate you taking the time to listen and for your great feedback! Funny story — I actually learned what an oxymoron was years ago when I was working in IT. I was producing a promo video for one of our new systems and proudly said it used highly energy-efficient processors that deliver high performance. Of course, that’s a contradiction — an oxymoron! That video had a few more like that, and someone kindly pointed it out to me. Ever since, I’ve been fascinated by how language can hold two opposites that somehow make sense together. And the fact that you described the song as “awfully good” (another perfect oxymoron!) shows you totally got the spirit of it. Thanks again — that made my day!

Here's a list of the oxymorons I used in the lyrics of this song:
Verse 1 1. Jumbo shrimp – big + small 2. Silent storm – quiet + violent 3. Hot-cool mess – opposite temperatures combined
Pre-Chorus 4. Bittersweet – happiness + sadness 5. Seriously fun – solemn + playful 6. Beautiful nonsense – meaningful beauty + meaningless chaos
Chorus 7. Smartest dumb thing – intelligence + stupidity 8. Open secrets – hidden + known 9. Plastic glass – fake + real (or clear) 10. Cruelly kind – harsh + gentle 11. Favorite oxymoron – (self-referential paradox: you can’t logically be an oxymoron)
Verse 2 12. Freezing fire – cold + hot 13. Sweet addiction – pleasure + harm 14. Alone together – solitary + united 15. Crystal clear – (metaphorically amplifies “clarity,” but in context, reinforces the irony of emotional confusion — semi-oxymoronic)
Chorus (variation) 16. Living dead – life + death 17. Deafening peace – silence + overwhelming noise 18. Common sense with no release – rational + trapped
Bridge 19. Peaceful noise – calm + loud 20. Wrong and right – moral opposites 21. Pretty ugly – beautiful + unattractive 22. Making sense all wrong– logical + illogical
Final Chorus 23. Sweet sorrow – joy + grief 24. Day at night – light + dark 25. Wrong that feels exactly right – moral/feeling contradiction
Outro 26. Smartest fool – wisdom + foolishness
