Kim and I struggled over that verse.
I think she meant to convey the idea of someone who hasn't got time to stop and think, but when they do they suddenly think ....

"And caused bitter tears to fall from angelic eyes" which suggests that someone has left a young child behind, maybe because of a relationship break down.
"I can't change a single thing thats said and done"
followed by "but I can be a better man til I see that setting sun"(the question mark is a mistake) suggests a decision to seek redemption.
