I always love the "legalize pot" rants. They are funny to me. I can just see everybody who grow pot in their basements, in the woods, under their houses in glow light rooms, volunteering to come in to collect and pay taxes. That is the same thing as they said when music downloading started. "Sure" tax it. Yeah right. They would not collect enough revenue from pot growers to even cover the administrative costs. Those people are simply not going to go in and volunteer to pay money. Not ever going to happen.
I have nothing against people who want to smoke pot. But to think a bunch of stoned people going to their local dealer, to pick up donuts and Mountain Dew, are going to tack on another $10-$25 bucks per purchase of pot? Be serious. I don't mind decriminilizing it, but if you think that is going to bring in any significant revenue, look at the music business. The day that "anybody could do it, CD burners, Pro tools recording studios, I pods, the Internet, people being able to get it for free, the ability to make money almost has ended. Pot growers are just not going to go legit.
They can legalize it all they want to. When everybody can grow it on their own, the tax base on that never materializes.
