In the book and accompanying cd "Standing in the Shadows of Motown", several of the artists dampen their strings to get the James Jamerson sound. Jamerson kept the pickup cover on, and I believe it had some felt in it that dampened the strings. Mike ------------------ Mike Dunbar Music
