Hi- I have joined the Music Dealers.com to try to place some of mine and Colin's songs. In the information for the song they ask for song pro...which for myself and Colin is BMI but what is a songwriter CAE#? is that our acct number or reg. code for BMI or neither? help. Thanks

CAE/IPI #: international identification number assigned to songwriters and publishers. http://www.bmi.com/faq/entry/what_is_an_ipi_cae_numberSupposedly the CAE is being phased out and replaced by the IPI#: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPI_code I can't figure out who assigns it, but it seems that BMI (and ASCAP) might handle this. Call your PRO and ask.

yes thats what it is-its your membership number...
when BMI sent you a email saying you were now a member they also gave you 2 numbers called your CAE AND IPI numbers...........if you deleted that email without writing them down-then you have to call or email BMI membership Services...once you get them again write them down in a easily accessible place cause any contract you sign in the music business will likely want those numbers.....
good luck
Tom

Thanks Kevin and Tom, I have both numbers from BMI..I just didn't see a CAE# attached to either so I was unsure which, if any was that number. Thanks so much for your help!!!! You guys of JPF are super kewl.
