Hi Folks,

Yeah, it's been forever since I updated this. But I have spent a lot of time responding to posts around the site so I am not invisible.

I just started some intensive pool therapy that I am excited about. Right now they are working on flexibility (I do well there) and alignment (I am a disaster there) and control (also not so hot). I have a long way to go but after waiting nearly 6 months to get in, I am glad to be back at therapy.

We had booked a long Euro tour prior to my stroke but we've changed it up and we're going to focus on Paris for most of the 5 weeks. We want to make inroads into a major Euro city so we're dedicating 4.5 weeks there to meet musicians, current members and possibly a side trip up to Amsterdam and/or down to southern France/Spain border to meet up with members in both. (Our third attempt to include Amsterdam on one of our tours). Of course things are much different now than previous trips where I could drive 1000 miles per week and we'd visit 17 countries in 7 weeks. I used to go 18+ hours a day without thinking twice. Now I am good for about 8 hours max per day like most humans. We'll see how that affects things. My health is still in question, but all my doctors and family agreed I should keep on traveling as long as I can. If something bad happens, at least I am out on another adventure doing what I love. Being on the sidelines all year has bummed me out. I want to stop the death watch and go out and start living again. Outside of the USA, what better place than Paris to take the big change eh?

We'll be over there Oct 5-Nov 7. I am glad to be back in the game!

Brian

Brian,

That's great! I am glad you are feeling like hitting the road again and doing what you love. And for what it's worth, French medical care is reputedly among the best in the world so you should be in good hands if you need anything.

Brian, that's AWESOME! Good luck with the therapy, I know you'll approach it like you do everything, with the attitude that you'll succeed and therefore FULL FORCE! smile The Euro tour sounds wonderful! Please send back pics while you're on it so we can "be there" with you! smile

Hey Bri! I want to come up and see you for a day or two before the snow flies. Maybe mid-November? Whatever is convenient for you, I know you have a lot of work to catch up on. Insanely jealous of your five weeks in Paris. smile

Sounds like a great plan! Have as much fun as possible. Maybe Yann will try and hook up with you. He's somewhere there in France.

Hi Bro Bri! Hope You & Linda enjoy the City of Love...it's somewhat Magical. It's Very Relaxing..while it also Wears Ya Out..there's SO much to see & do there.

BUT..the French KNOW that it's Perfectly O.K. to just sit in a sidewalk cafe chair, sip on some wine or coffee, and watch the boats float by on the Seine..or the touristos rush-by en route to whatever..and just do Nothing Much at All. (They even have a Verb for it.."Se Flaner".) ("Relax"'d be the English Translation..heh!)

HOPE ya get some of that IN on this trip, Amigo...

Best Wishes, Continued Recovery Prayers, & Big French-Style Guy-Hugs to ya..(Warning..I think the Guys still Kiss-Ya a bit in the clinches over there..heh...it's Traditional!)

Hey Brian:

Glad you've made enough progress that this is even a possibility. Have a great trip and post the pictures smile

What's "alignment" mean in the context you used it?

Sounds like a great plan Brian! You travel thousands of miles to get there, and then let the the Folks travel a few hundred to find you. Heck, I might even make the trip just to hang with ya for a few days.

I share everyone else's delight that you're back in the game, doing what you love, and their concern that you don't overdo it.

Enjoy!

First off, nice to see you're progressing physically, and that your spirits are high.

Have a great trip!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the encouragement.

I was pretty much done with any thoughts on travel because all things being equal I only have a couple good days per week and the rest of it I don't do so well. I don't have the energy or focus I used to and even my short and long term memory is fuzzier than I am comfortable with. (I used to remember ridiculous numbers of people and places and songs and events and now I need a lot of help pulling up facts that used to be automatic. After all those years of having that as a major asset, I feel a bit naked now.

My hope is that I can get in some walking each day. Last time we visited Paris during the 2007 Europe Tour we walked app. 10 miles the first day we were there. I'd be happy with 1 mile this time out. We're 1/3 of a mile from 3 different sites and the metro so most likely I'll have to walk more than a mile if we do anything. We don't have a room with a view, so we can't just lie back and relax because we could do that here. (though we never seem to have a free moment). I am at the doctors, therapy, major tests or blood draws at the hospital 5 days a week minimum so it's like having a job that is opposite hours of my wifes 84 hour work week (i.e. when she should be sleeping). She's the one who REALLY needs some relaxation time. We considered Southern France and both of us are a little bit regretting we didn't do it but it's a tough balance between relaxation and terrible frustrating boredom. Paris should at least be able to keep us busy.

Once I get back I am going to focus on therapy the rest of the year (and holidays) and hope that by the time of my 1 year anniversary of my death and miraculous explosion back to life I can resume a more normal day to day life and JPF can get back on track as I had hoped for 2010. One thing I hope to do is find my eventual replacement and groom them if needed to take the reigns of JPF if I can't keep doing it for any reason.
