E-mail this morning from England. "No Good Songs About the War" won first prize in the "Doing Dylan" contest we entered over there last summer. (They wanted to know where to send the prize check--100 British pounds--to.) Recorded by our band, "Deathgrass"--it was the first use of John-the-bass-player's new studio equipment.

Bill, I've been hesitant to ask the Brits that question. Sure sounds heavy, though, don't it?

Joe, Congratulations, fella. Don't let Roy know about it, he'll start up his contest thread again LOL. Maybe a hundred pounds of clay. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hfx2h4M6oQ
You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music

Thanks, Ricki. I have been trying not to have 100 pounds more than the rest of you. I really have been losing weight...
I told the "Doing Dylan" people to send us a "cheque" instead of depositing the money to PayPal. I want to take the cheque and the band down to the local bank and have our pitcher taken for the newspaper, yada yada. I'd like to milk this for all we can. "Deathgrass" may not be the biggest thing ever to hit western Oregon, but we're sure going to try to act like it.

The Writelink people over in England were excited about us doin' pictures, too. They want copies.
Ev, my daughter told me the exchange rate yesterday was 166.58. Sounds like the dollar is indeed being Obamanated. I believe (or am hoping) the "cheque" will be denominated in pounds, so the exchange rate will be whatever it is when it gets here--probably in 1-2 weeks (they said they were mailing it out today).

The "weight" of this news is so "heavy" that my heart "pounds"! You might need the whole gang to hold the check or is it "cheque" (sounds classier)since it weighs that much!!! CONGRATULATIONS and then some!! Best of spending or depositing, Lynn

Joe,
Congratulations! Sounds like you and Deathgrass need to start gearing up for the tour! If your tour stops in St. Louis, I expect backstage passes! I'll be watching for the announcement!
Way To Go, Joe!

Thanks, Stan. 'Tain't spent yet--I haven't managed to deposit it yet. My credit union won't take it--they said they can't do international currency transactions (the "cheque" is denominated in British pounds)--and our local bank here won't do it unless I open an account there (which I'm kinda reluctant to do, since it's been made public they're going under). I haven't worried overmuch thus far, because the dollar is dropping with respect to the pound by roughly 1.3 cents per day. Next time, though--PayPal.
Joe

Alas, Colin, it didn't weigh very much. I guess the Brits were using Pounds Lite.

Joe Just think, soon as you cash the cheque, you can take some lovely unsuspecting out for a bite of dead cow, then off to the swimming hole with her .... Congrats on the song winning !!! Paul Gaines AKA Shooter

Great suggestion, Paul. And "the lovely unsuspecting" sounds like a line that needs a song to go with it.
